Supporting community healing and reconciliation
Recently, Busways supported the Macleay Valley community in northern NSW with free shuttle bus services to the commemoration event of 100 years since the opening of the Kinchela Boys Home.
The free travel enabled more community members to participate in the event, part of a healing process for Indigenous families affected by the forced removal of children between 1920 and 1970. The event saw the site, once was part of The Stolen Generation, transformed into a healing space for survivors who shared their stories surrounded by descendants and their families.
The Centenary was an opportunity to learn about the past, celebrate the present and gain knowledge for the future.
Organised by the Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC), the celebration was filled with cultural performances, exhibitions of photos and artefacts, panels, and stalls.
The free travel support was part of Busways' commitment to Reconciliation. Busways will continue to support Reconciliation through community engagements and forming partnerships with Indigenous communities across our service regions.
