Over 54,000 inspections, and counting, improve on board experience
Busways Community Relations Officers are always out and about on the Busways network South Australia and NSW working with passengers, drivers and the public to encourage positive behaviour on board and answer questions.
In NSW, we often team up with Sydney Trains Transit Officers, NSW Police and shopping centre security teams and on our Adelaide network with SA Police and Wilson Security to address anti-social behaviour like fare evasion or poor conduct on buses.
In the last 12 months:
- over 54,000 passengers have had their ticket inspected
- nearly 765 passengers were issued fare evasion fines and infringement notices
- another 500+ people received a transit caution or formal police warning
- 18 arrests were made
“It’s important that customers understand any service can be inspected at any time,” says team leader Hesh Youssef.
“We conduct inspections at any time of day or night, across all our regions, so if you fare evade or misbehave it’s only a matter of time until you get caught,” Mr Youssef said.
“All our team wear body cameras, and footage from these can be used to assist Police with investigations.
“For most people who do the right thing, be assured we’ve got your back. We take these matters very seriously and our regular inspection activities and onboard presence help reduce fare evasion and anti-social behaviour to improve safety.”
