Let's pave the way for a greener future, one car-free day at a time!
This Sunday 17 September, join Busways and Lane Cove Council at Car Free Sunday, Lane Cove Village from 10am to 1pm.
Community will get the chance to have a close up look at one of our new Zero Emissions Buses and hear about the future of public transport.
World Car Free Day is a movement towards the use of public transport, walking, and cycling over use of private vehicles, such as a car, to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.
Busways Ryde Service Delivery Manager Kate Wallace says Car Free Sunday is a great way to remind Lane Cove locals of the benefits of using public transport.
“Studies show the health benefits for people who combine active transport options, such as walking or cycling, with the use of public transport,” Mrs Wallace said.
“Leaving the car at home can also have a big impact in congestion. A single bus can take over 42 vehicles off the road, reducing congestion and improving air quality,” she said.
“Once that bus becomes an electric bus there is a saving of around 7kg of Co2 per Km, which is a 92% decrease in Co2 emissions.”
Come and have a chat to our friendly team at the Busways information stall and check out an electric bus on Sunday.
A reminder that the below road closures will occur in Lane Cove on 17 Sept from 6am until 7pm:
- Burns Bay Road from Tambourine Road to Birdswood Avenue
- Longueville Road from Central Avenue to Birdwood Avenue.
Detours will be in place, plan ahead, visit https://transportnsw.info/trip or use Google Maps.
