Extend the spirit of friendship to your bus driver this International Friendship Day

Women greeting the driver

Today Busways is marking International Friendship Day, an initiative by the United Nations to promote peace and a spirit of human solidarity, which in its simplest expression takes the form of friendship.

International Friendship Day is a time to reflect that building camaraderie and developing ties of trust can contribute to the fundamental shifts in society to achieve stability and safety. It is all about promoting a culture of peace, and advancing understanding and tolerance.

“When we think of friendship, we often think of our closest friends and family, yet there’s another type of friendship that forms quietly, yet impacts significantly, and that is extending the spirit of friendship to the bus drivers who play a significant role in our daily lives by providing public transport, as well as your fellow passengers,” says Jason Roberts, Busways Head of Service Delivery Greater Sydney.

“Your bus driver is more than just someone who operates a vehicle; they are a dedicated professional committed to ensuring your journey is safe, comfortable, and enjoyable. They're a friendly face who brightens your morning, a trusted guide for every journey, a reliable companion through your daily routine, and a vital connection to your community.

“So, this International Friendship Day, we encourage you to appreciate the essential role bus drivers play in our lives.  A simple act of kindness, like a friendly greeting, a word of thanks, or a gesture of patience, can make a big difference to your bus drivers who are there day in day out for your everyday journey.

Happy International Friendship Day!
