Busways congratulates Port Macquarie bus driver Kath Curry, who is the BusNSW Rural and Regional Driver of the Year for 2024. With a driving career spanning 25 years, Kath’s journey exemplifies dedication, professionalism, and a profound commitment to her community.  

Kath's journey as a bus driver began in 1999 when she transitioned from working in libraries and a timber mill. Over the years, Kath has earned widespread respect from colleagues, passengers, and management alike for her positive attitude and unwavering dedication to safety, customer service, and mentorship.  

She has been an active volunteer at community events, such as transporting veterans on ANZAC Day for over 14 years and organising Christmas light tours for aged-care residents. Her selfless contributions have earned her admiration from the Port Macquarie community and her team at the depot. 

"I’m truly honoured to receive this award and thank Busways and BusNSW for this recognition. It’s been a privilege to serve my community for nearly 25 years, and I’m grateful to work with such a supportive team,” Kath Curry said.

From covering early shifts to stepping in during emergencies, she has been a great team player. Her unwavering commitment to the ANZAC veterans exemplifies her generosity and sense of community." 

Kath's commitment to excellence extends to her colleagues as a mentor and leader. New drivers often rely on her wisdom to navigate operational challenges and over the years she has trained many new drivers to excel in their roles. Since joining the Drivers’ Consultative Committee in 2015, she has also played an integral role in representing drivers' concerns and fostering a supportive work environment.
