Busways forming the next generation of safe travellers
In 2024 so far, Busways has educated over 2,300 primary school students about Bus Safety across its contract regions. Students across Greater Western Sydney, the North Coast of NSW and Adelaide have ‘graduated’ as Bus Safety Heroes through our school bus safety education program.
Busways runs this free program for young students with the aim of creating a more safety conscious generation and encouraging the adoption of public transport. Students enjoy an interactive and fun in-class lesson tailored to the different learning stages that align with the school syllabus.
Mr Ticehurst, School Principal from St Matthews Primary School Windsor said” With more students catching the bus there’s no better time to teach our students the fundamentals of being safe around buses”.
Busways is committed to engaging with the wider community to promote a culture of road safety through education, awareness, and collective action. Our educators who are also Bus Drivers encourage the program as it helps reduce anti-social behaviour on the bus and reminds students of the importance of using their bus passes.
Miss Jessica Britton, Sports Coordinator from St Matthews Primary School Windsor said “We chose to educate our whole school and the kids just loved it, enjoying the in classroom content and the bus ride that allowed students to put their newfound knowledge into practice.”
Our long running program aims to reassure parents that their children are well equipped to travel safely and confidently on school commutes in the hopes of encouraging more families to utilise school buses and to help eases traffic congestion
