Busways bus driver retires after 39 years
One of Busways' longest serving bus drivers Peter Perkins has hung up his hat for the last time, officially retiring after 39 years driving buses in the Clarence Valley region.
Peter worked at our Grafton depot on the NSW north coast for his entire career at the company, operating route, school and long-term charters. He was always well presented, had pride in his job and always offered quality customer service to his passengers.
"I've always loved receiving positive feedback from passengers and school children, it makes my day," Peter said of his time as a bus driver.
He also added the experience of learning to drive a bus many years ago is very different to what our drivers go through now with a new and modern fleet to operate.
"The experience of driving a manual crash gear box with a full load of senior citizen passengers, hoping you're going to get to the top of a steep hill is one of my fond memories," he said.
At 83 years old, Peter is ready to enjoy his retirement years taking holidays and writing a recollection of his life in the Grafton area.
Thank you for your many years of professional service to Busways, Peter.
