Keep an eye out on your commute this festive season for local buses that have been decked out with bright and colourful decorations of all kinds to spread Christmas cheer among the community.

Busways is spreading the Christmas spirit to raise funds for Australia charity The Kids’ Cancer Project, bringing some joy and kindness to see out 2021.

A selection of buses have been decked out in Christmas finery and will parade their merry looks until the end of December, running on a variety of different routes.

Customers are asked to get on board and support the festive fundraising ‘drive’, while Busways will match this with a $5,000 donation to The Kids’ Cancer Project.

The Kids’ Cancer Project CEO, Owen Finegan, said they were really excited to be partnering with Busways as the national charity relies on community donations.

“Our charity was founded by a tourist coach driver who stopped his bus outside ta hospital and went in to make a difference for kids with cancer,” Mr Finegan said.

“So we're really excited to be partnering with Busways and encouraging passengers to donate on board through December. All that funding will go into medical scientific research to improve the survival rates for kids with cancer, as well as improving the treatments that can have life-long effects.

"We believe in science, solutions and survival and we have 38 research projects right across Australia and you'll be making a difference this Christmas by donating when you get on board," he said.

“Our Christmas Bus Initiative is driven by the people working at our depots who collectively chose to support The Kids’ Cancer Project. Our team has taken pride in decorating their buses and can’t wait to see the smiling faces of their passengers when they hop on the bus each day,” Bus Driver Va’a Crichton said.

“We’d love to top funds raised in previous years after what has been a challenging year for many to say the least,” he added. “As we gather with family and friends this festive season, we also remember those who are doing it tough. Every donation helps, no matter how small.”

“Our Christmas buses get behind a great cause and create a good feeling for everyone. We encourage the community to enjoy and donate.”

NRL grand final hero, Penrith Panthers player Stephen Crichton, whose father Va'a drives for Busways, said he felt “blessed to be asked to promote” this initiative.

“I feel really blessed to be part of this especially with Dad working at Busways – it’s important to support this next generation of children as best we can and it’s a pleasure to be supporting The Kids’ Cancer Project,” he said.

You can enjoy Christmas buses across Busways’ 18 depots from Yamba on the NSW north coast to Penrith in Western Sydney and from Hallet Cove to Seaford in South Australia.

“Busways wishes all our customers a happy and safe festive holiday season,” Va’a added.

Donations can be made via a QR code on board the bus or online.
