Driver Training

All Busways drivers undertake a comprehensive training program to ensure our vehicles operate safely through the communities we services. An extensive induction program involves learning about customer service, bus routes, fares and ticketing to meet Busways driving standards.

All eligible drivers undertake Nationally Recognised Training through a traineeship in Certificate III - Transport & Logistics Driving Operations (Bus Driver). Once completed, the traineeship is equivalent of a Trades Certificate and recognises the skills needed to be a professional driver. 

This ongoing training is given over a two year period and consists of both classroom and on road training, all carried out in the workplace and delivered by TAFE NSW.

Some of the subject areas covered include:

  • Customer Service
  • Follow Work Health and Safety procedures
  • Driving MR vehicles
  • Working in a socially diverse environment
  • Managing disruptive and/or unlawful behaviour
  • Transport passengers with disabilities

When they successfully complete the traineeship, drivers receive a certificate that recognises them as a professional driver, ready to deal with all situations they will meet on the road.

In addition, all Busways drivers have access to regular training through updates and refresher sessions with Busways' RMS qualified assessors. 

New policies and procedures affecting Work Health and safety (eg: Drug and Alcohol procedures) are discussed through WHS committees and communicated throughout the company.
