White Ribbon is important and our daughter and granddaughter are why!

24 Nov 2016

Our daughter and granddaughter were the victims of domestic violence, domestic violence that eventually escalated to murder. This tragedy left 4 young boys without their mother and an eagerly awaited baby sister named Mia.

Our four precious grandsons saw things that no children should see let alone witness, they didn’t say anything beforehand as sadly they weren’t allowed; this has caused them a lot of heart ache and issues to which we wish they never had to feel or experience.  This event has left our daughter Kirralee’s sisters and friends questioning WHY and WHAT DID I MISS. For us as Kirralee’s parents, we knew in our gut that something wasn’t right for a while beforehand however every time that we asked, she would say that things were “fine”.

White Ribbon donated White Ribbons for our daughter Kirralee’s funeral in hopes of reaching out to people who are living in a situation where domestic violence in present and more importantly to the people who commit acts of violence to show them that there is help available. White Ribbon is for awareness of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, making people aware of the physical, verbal, emotional and mental abuse and showing people that there is help for you whether you are a victim or a perpetrator. Domestic violence or violence of any kind is not normal or acceptable behaviour, if you are experiencing any of these behaviours, please get help! It is available! The help that is available will make you aware of what you are doing and assist you in getting back to  being the loving partner that you once were at the beginning of the relationship. It will help you to realise when and why things have changed.

Homicide Victims Support Group are available when abuse ends in death, they help the people like us, the ones left behind after tragedy. They support us with counselling or an ear to talk to, help family and friends to just get through each and every day to continue our lives as best we can. HVSG are building Graces Place for the children of victims, this is so important as these children currently have no access to support services once they are older. The HVSG have supported us every step of the way since Kirralee’s passing, they have even assisted us with the court proceedings.

The Homicide Victims Support Group only exists because of the many victims of domestic homicide, we hope that through the work that White Ribbon does raising awareness on domestic violence and showing people that there are support services available that one day there won’t be a need for the HVSG, because that would mean that there are no families left with the heavy heart that we now carry.

Domestic violence is about controlling someone and WE SAY NO!!! Anyone who is living like this, knows of someone living like this or who is the abuser, please SPEAK UP!! You may be saving someones life!

IF YOU KNOW ANYONE DEALING WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR COMMITTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE – SPEAK UP SO THAT THEY CAN GET THE HELP THEY NEED FOR A BETTER, SAFER AND HAPPIER LIFE!!!
