Central Coast 5 Lands Walk Sponsorship

05 Aug 2014

This year Busways was a major sponsor of the Central Coast 5 Lands Walk, a day which coincides with the humpback whales northern migration and showcases aboriginal ceremonies, music, art and food across the five surf clubs from MacMasters to Terrigal.

“This year was the first year that Busways have been involved in the 5 Lands Walk so it was a challenge to make sure that the day ran smoothly.” said Andrew Kendall, Busways Kincumber Depot Manager.

After a lot of preparation in conjunction with Lindsay Cunningham, the 5LW organiser the day approached and Busways were prepared. There were six drivers for the morning period and two drivers for the afternoon period that where excited to be part of large celebration for the Central Coast.

The first buses left Terrigal Haven and Crown Plaza Terrigal at 7am and continued to shuttle the excited and enthusiastic walkers to Macmasters Beach up until 10.30am. Communication between Busways and 5 Lands Walk volunteers at Terrigal made moving the large crowds very easy. “Busways drivers having sound knowledge of the local area made for a very enjoyable day out for the many walkers from the Central Coast and Sydney” said Andrew.

Lindsay Cunningham said “Your drivers (Corli VanBarneld, Rick Morse, Graham Gleeson, Chris Goulding, John Smith, Barry Slade, Stephen Gairn and John Sbroochi) are a credit to Busways. They were well presented, positive, happy, and obviously enjoyed the day.”

“The day was generally regarded by many people inside and outside of the organisation as simply the very best, outstanding to date. Estimates are around the 17500 – 18000 participants in general with some 3800 registered walkers” said Lindsay.

“It was a great to see the way in which Busways was perceived for assisting in a major tourism event for the Central Coast. Busways is looking forward to next year and making it a bigger and better experience than the last! “ Andrew Kendall.
